In Denial: Teeth

on February 20, 2014

We’re going for a new record. We’re going to be the last one at our Monday baby group to get a tooth! (And to grow hair, but that’s a different topic). At almost 9 months old Elvis still has no sign of toothies.

Well, I say no sign, but what are his signs?

I have to admit that I find other people’s comments about teething annoying. I don’t mind the question: ooh, is he teething? No, it’s the follow up comments. You see when that question is asked I always respond I don’t know. I then get their reason why they assume.

Ooh, he’s teething – look at all that dribble.

Ooh, he’s sucking his lower lip – he’s teething.

Ooh, look at his little, red, teething cheeks.

Ooh, he’s chewing his finger/toy/etc… you get the drift.

The thing is, he’s done most of these things on and off for over 6 months now! I’ve heard all of these signs from others since Elvis was about 3 months old. And we’ve still got no teeth. So, no, at the moment, none of those signs are signs of him teething to have a tooth erupt.

All the babies in his 2-month age range at his Monday group have at least one tooth (some have 6 already) and I’m now willing the 5 monthers to start. I’m not sure why.

Perhaps it’s because there’s nothing I can do about it.

Perhaps I’m afraid of getting bit so the closer to 12 months, the closer to no more breastfeeding if he likes to bite!

Just people, please, stop telling me everything is a sign because it’s like teasing or tormenting me because nothing comes of it.

If it makes you feel better , my miss 3 was bald until 14 months….and the teeth, well, let’s just say, enjoy your sleep now. Like anything with kids, it all sorts itself out. Yes, you will worry, cry, blow yourself up thinking about it….but it all happens…..eventually !
