The Little Details: Check the Unorthodox

on March 10, 2014

A lot of mums, first time or further down the line, probably only want to shop or look in proper shops for items for their children; I’m the same to an extent.

For certain things.

I would never buy a second hand car seat. Or a mattress.

We wanted a brand new cot, brand new changing unit, moses basket and baby bath.

But we’re happy to buy and look at second hand items, and in the cheap, discount shops.

Most of Elvis’ clothes are second hand.

But it’s the pound shops that a lot of people don’t think about. We have one nearby (it’s actually a 99p shop) and from there we have bought so many amazing things that Elvis prefers over more expensive, named brands.

We got 5 rubber duckies for 99p. We got a set of links that Elvis prefers playing with over the branded set. Teethers that my friend’s baby used and Elvis has 3 of so that we can’t lose one. 12 section, with lid, freezer trays for weaning. 5 bath-time play boats. We’ve recently just bought (but not tested) sun shades for the car and a stroller rain cover. I have no idea what these two things are like, but the rest are tried and tested! They also do wipe boxes, bottles, weaning cutlery and bowls, some items of clothing and a whole host of things we haven’t tried.

They also have fantastic vacuum storage bags – perfect for all of his old clothes!

99p shops rule!

I love buying things second-hand! Like you, there are certain things we don’t (and wouldn’t unless we literally had no choice) but clothes, toys and such are awesome to buy cheaper because they go through them so fast!

Second hand pages on facebook are amazing, I’ve paid a fraction of the retail for toys that are perfect and Elvis prefers them to new things! I don’t understand people who refuse to even look in these places!

We have two great thrift stored near us where we are able to shop for used things…and we do regularly! 😀
