Persephone: Parent

A fine site

I finally have a date when I graduate.

June 25th.

3 months.

It’s such a relief to finally have that date. I’ve been waiting on tenerhooks for the date for almost 3 months and it was starting to feel like my life was on hold until I knew. Maybe it was a reason behind my insomnia, too.

Now, to find out if we can agree on hours!

Giggle Monster

We’ve reached a giggle phase. Until recently, you had to work to get a simple out of Elvis, but he’s started to give up smiles and giggles a bit easier.

Yesterday he was grinning away at some girls (between 6 months and 8 years). Today I caught him giggling at his toy box and then as I chased him around upstairs.

I’m not sure how much my knees will take, but I’ll accept that pain to hear his amazing giggles.

The Little Details: Generations

As a follow up to buying new socks as a Mummy-to-be, I randomly stated this piece of advice to a M2B earlier. With regards to advice from our parents or older generation:

Things have changed in those 20+ years so things they advise might not be right. But their children/we survived so they weren’t wrong.

And I think it’s the only suggestion I’d really give to anyone because it applies to every element of parenting. Breastfeeding may be considered best but that doesn’t make formula worst. Co-sleeping is suggested to be wrong, but it can be right for your family. Parent led versus baby led, attachment parenting versus not, dummies or feeding to sleep, or rocking to sleep.

You do what you can, what you need for your family. You might regret things, but you had a reason at the time and that’s all that matters – you, your baby and the daddy.

Driving Master Elvis

We’ve been a carless family since before Elvis was even considered. I attempted to start driving lessons years and years ago, but I got bored. Even now with Elvis, I have never felt like I have missed out on anything because neither hubby or I drive. But my husband wanted to learn to drive.

And he passed this week so has literally gone and bought a car.

And now the debate over car seats has started!

Do You?

Do you feel the same?
Do you feel as I do, as he did?
Will you be like him?
Will this be the making?
What could we do now?
What changes could we make?
Who will she become? Him, you, me?
Who does he look down upon?
Is he guarding, like an angel?
Is he regretful? Is that in our tea?
Where have these roads taken us?
Where will it take the next generation?
Can history be avoided?
Can it be more than ignored?
Why is simple not so?
Why do I care to cry?

TV Watching: The Tomorrow People

I remember loving the 90s kids show The Tomorrow People; it had Todd from Neighbours and I was in love with Christian Tessier. They even had a pod people storyline which didn’t give me nightmares (I cannot cope with Zombies or pod-people) so I wanted to give the new version a go.

Well, it’s ok.
